L-Selenomethionine is a naturally occurring amino acid containing selenium that is commonly used for the labeling of proteins to facilitate structural determination by x-ray crystallography. Selenomethionine is an antioxidant and has been shown to increase glutathione peroxidase activity in endothelial cells.
