General description

神经元素2（NGN2）是一种螺旋-环-螺旋类转录因子。具有bHLH基序的转录因子调控哺乳动物新皮层发育中的关键事件。从增殖到神经发生的转变涉及原神经bHLH因子（包括神经元素2）活性的协同增加以及Hes和Id因子活性的降低。bHLH因子在皮质生成中起关键作用，影响分化的时机和细胞命运的规律。Neurog2控制胚胎大脑皮层的神经发生，在新生成的小鼠皮层神经元开始迁移之前，直接诱导小GTP结合蛋白Rnd2的表达。
