Biochem/physiol Actions
N-Hydroxypipecolic acid (1-Hydroxy-2-piperidinecarboxylic acid) is a plant metabolite that plays a crucial role in the establishment of systemic acquired resistance (SAR) in plants. It works in tandem with the immune signal salicylic acid to orchestrate SAR establishment. In response to pathogen attack, N-Hydroxypipecolic acid (NHP) accumulates systemically in the plant foliage and induces SAR (systemic acquired resistance) to bacterial and oomycete infection. NHP (N-Hydroxypipecolic acid) induces de novo systemic accumulation of extracellular nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (phosphate) [eNAD(P)] mainly through the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by respiratory burst oxidase homolog F (RBOHF).
