General description
EPHB4 (Ephb1 Eph receptor B4) belongs to EPHB receptor family, which is the biggest family of transmembrane tyrosine kinase receptors. Mammals contain five EPHB receptors, namely, EPHB1-EPHB4 and EPHB6. Their ligands are transmembrane in nature and are called ephrinB1, -B2 and -B3.
Biochem/physiol Actions
EPHB4 (ephrin receptor B4) is a member of the Eph family of receptor tyrosine kinases which play a role in regulating cell adhesion and cell movement during embryonic development. Furthermore, because tissue disorganization and abnormal cell adhesion, movement, and survival characterize the more advanced stages of cancer, the inappropriate functioning of Eph receptor could play a causal role in malignancy. Furthermore, EPHB4 has been shown to be the major essential interaction partner of Ephrin B2 in angiogenesis.
