General description
This gene encodes a BH3-like motif containing protein involved in cell death. The encoded protein may induce apoptosis in a caspase-dependent manner. The protein is localized in both the cytoplasm and the mitochondrion. [SH

Biochem/physiol Actions
BRCC2 or BH3-like motif containing, cell death inducer acts as a tumor suppressor by modulating the AKT8 virus oncogene cellular homolog (Akt) pathway in breast cancer tissue. It associates with Bcl-2 long isoform (BCL-XL). BRCC2 also stimulates the caspase-dependent mitochondrial cell death pathway.
