General description
Novel neurotrophin-1/B-cell stimulating factor-3 (NNT-1/BSF-3), also known as cardiotrophin-like cytokine factor 1 (CLCF1), is encoded by the gene mapped to human chromosome 11q13.2. The encoded protein is a new member of the gp130 cytokine family. Recombinant human NNT-1/BCSF-3 is a 22.4 kDa protein containing 199 amino acid residues.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Novel neurotrophin-1/B-cell stimulating factor-3 (NNT-1/BSF-3) has neurotrophic and B cell stimulatory effects.In addition, it is also implicated in neuroimmunoendocrine modulation of corticotroph function. BSF-3 helps in the embryonic development and differentiation of motor, sensory and autonomic neurons. It also facilitates the bone formation during development and in the ongoing remodeling of endochondral bone. The encoded protein binds and activates glycoprotein 130 (gp130) and leukemia inhibitory factor receptor member b (LIFR-b). This ligand and receptor interaction further induces downstream signaling events and activates Janus kinase 1 (JAK1)-signal transducer and activator of transcription protein 3 (STAT3) signaling pathway. In vitro, it supports the survival of chick embryo motor and sympathetic neurons. In mice, NNT-1/BCSF-3 induces serum amyloid A, causes body weight loss and B cell hyperplasia associated with increased in serum IgG and IgM.

Lyophilized with no additives.
Preparation Note
Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 1 week. For extended storage, it is recommended to further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein (example 0.1% BSA) and store in working aliquots at -20°C to -80°C.
