General description
Leucine rich repeat containing 8 VRAC subunit D (LRRC8D) is a mammalian protein, which belongs to the family of leucine-rich repeat-containing 8 (LRRC8). It consists of four transmembrane domains at the N terminal and 17 leucine-rich repeats (LRR) at the C terminal. The gene is located on human chromosome 1p22.2.

LRRC5 (AAH09486, 1 a.a. ~ 143 a.a) full-length recombinant protein with GST tag. MW of the GST tag alone is 26 KDa.

Biochem/physiol Actions
Leucine rich repeat containing 8 VRAC subunit D (LRRC8D) is important for the translocation of neutral compounds like myo-inositol, taurine, γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and prolonged transport of positively charged lysine. LRRC8D deficiency is associated with reduced cellular platinum level. The protein acts as a transporter of small molecules. It is essential for the import of the antibiotic blasticidin S.
