General description
ExtrAvidin® Magnetic beads consist of a de-glycosylated, affinity-purified egg white avidin which is a tetrameric protein with four biotin-binding sites. This protein is conjugated into cyanogen bromide-activated magnetic beads at a ratio of ~4 mg/mL protein-to-beads. [TM= "ExtrAvidin"] magnetic beads are used for the purification of biotinylated macromolecules and complexes. It exploits the high binding affinity of avidin (one of the strongest non-covalent interactions known) while offering the low non-specific background binding typically associated with streptavidin produced by Streptomyces avidinii.
ExtrAvidin magnetic beads.
Application
The ExtrAvidin® magnetic beads may be used for:
- purification and enrichment of biotinylated macromolecules and complexes, including biotinylated proteins and biotin-tagged fusion proteins.
- immunoprecipitation and immunoaffinity purification.
Features and Benefits
- ExtrAvidin® Magnetic beads provide high affinity and high specificity binding to biotin (Vitamin B7), including biotinylated proteins and biotin-tagged fusion proteins.
- It provides high specificity binding to biotin with low background, offering a significant advantage over standard avidin or streptavidin-based systems exploits the avidin-biotin interaction (Kd = 10-15 M), one of the strongest non-covalent interactions known in nature.
- It also provides a high binding capacity of at least 650 nmoles of biotin per 1 mL of settled resin.
