General description
The ST14 (suppression of tumorigenicity 14) gene encodes a cell surface serine protease which is also called as matriptase. The ST14 gene is mapped to human chromosome 11q24.3.
This ELISA antibody pair detects Human Matriptase. Other species not yet determined.
Application
For research use only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures.
Please refer to the attached Protocolfor details.
Biochem/physiol Actions
St14 (suppression of tumorigenicity 14) forms complexes with serine proteases inhibitors HAIs (hepatocyte growth factor activator inhibitors), to prevent its proteolytic activity. ST14 expression is required for epithelial mesenchymal transition in tumor cells. St14′s biological activity is specific to different substrates, which includes extracellular matrix proteins, hepatocyte growth factor, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), adhesion molecules including Mac25 (insulin-like growth factor-binding protein 7) and Tie2 (angiopoietin-1 receptor) , proteases including urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA), prostasin (PRSS8), matrix metalloprotease 3 (MMP3). Upregulation of the gene is found in progressed epithelial cancer but lower expression of the gene is observed in colon cancer and hence it is termed ‘suppression of tumors′.
