Clone REA622 recognizes the human and mouse octamer-binding transcription factor 3/4 (Oct3/4). Oct3/4 is a homeodomain transcription factor belonging to the POU transcription factor family and is also known as POU domain class 5 transcription factor 1 (POU5F1). Oct3/4 is critical for the maintenance of totipotency in primate blastomeres and for pluripotency of the inner cell mass of developing mammalian embryos. This critical role of Oct3/4 is maintained in embryonic stem cells, the developing germline, and germline tumors, such as seminomas and embryonic teratocarcinomas. When inducing pluripotency in differentiated cells, Oct3/4 appears to be an essential but not the only required transcription factor. Oct3/4 acts as a transcriptional activator of genes involved in maintenance of undifferentiated state and as a repressor of differentiation-specific genes.
Additional information: Clone REA622 displays negligible binding to Fc receptors.
